The purpose of studying abroad in Ukraine: training highly qualified international lawyers capable of solving complex tasks in the field of international law and international relations, with a high level of theoretical and practical knowledge, skills and competencies necessary for the effective performance of professional tasks and duties.

Training of foreign specialists educated abroad who have acquired the competences necessary to understand the nature and functions of international law, the content of its basic legal institutions, the application of law, as well as the boundaries of international legal regulation of various social relations.

The main focus of the educational program for foreign students who have come to study abroad is aimed at mastering the basics of fundamental and practical knowledge of international law.

After completing their studies abroad in Ukraine under the educational program “International Law” foreign students receive an educational level of higher education:

  • Bachelor of International Law;
  • Professional qualification: International Lawyer.

Specialists of the industry after studying abroad in Ukraine are able to perform such professional duties:

  • Conduct research, intelligently and accurately formulate and express their positions, justify them properly, and participate in reasoned professional discussion;
  • Make impartial and reasoned decisions, determine the interests and motives of others, reconcile parties with opposing interests;
  • Knowledge of the foundations of legal theory, the structure of the legal profession and its role in society;
  • Knowledge of the history of law and state institutions;
  • Knowledge of the standards of the legal profession;
  • Knowledge of international human rights standards;
  • Knowledge of the foundations and doctrines of public international law, as well as the content of the main international legal institutions;
  • Knowledge of the foundations of European Union law;
  • The basics and doctrines of national law and the content of legal institutions of such fundamental branches of law as: constitutional law, administrative law and administrative procedure law, civil and civil procedure law, labour law, criminal law and criminal procedure law;
  • An understanding of the nature, dynamics, principles of organization of international relations, forms and ways of their implementation, types and types of international actors, their role in contemporary international relations and international politics;
  • Knowledge of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms and the case law of the European Court of Human Rights;
  • To protect the national interests of one’s own state through international legal instruments;
  • Carry out legal analysis and legal qualification of phenomena of international life on the basis of international legal norms;
  • Provide legal opinions and consultations on the issues of international law, national law of Ukraine and other states; define legal risks of certain foreign policy or foreign economic initiatives, choose the ways of their minimization;
  • Ability to develop a legal position in the interests of the client, as well as counterarguments against the position of opponents; to conduct discussions and debates on international legal and general legal issues;
  • Conduct diplomatic and business correspondence, work with international documents: treaties, acts of international organizations, analyze their nature and legal status, draft projects and accompanying documentation;
  • Comply with the basic norms of diplomatic and business etiquette, the ability to take into account the fundamental features of the culture and mentality of foreign representatives;
  • Characterize the contractual and institutional mechanisms of legal regulation of European integration; be able to analyze the practice of bodies of European integration associations, decisions of the EU courts and national judicial bodies of the Member States
  • To understand the peculiarities of international legal phenomena;
  • Participate in international negotiations and the work of international intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations, make informed and effective management decisions;
  • Evaluate the weaknesses and advantages of arguments by analyzing a known problem;
  • Identify political, diplomatic, image, public, economic and other risks related to measures of international legal nature, cooperate with specialists of relevant industries in the selection of means to minimize such risks;
  • Analyze the collected and processed information on the state of international relations, foreign policy, prepare analytical reports and other forms of presentation of the results of the analysis with the correct design of references to the norms of international and Ukrainian law;
  • Provide for wide public consequences of conclusion of an international treaty or other action of diplomatic or international legal nature, adoption of domestic legal acts;
  • Drawing up drafts of an international treaty and related documentation, drafting procedural documents for conducting cases in judicial bodies, texts of draft laws, comparative tables, explanatory notes and other accompanying documentation to draft laws;
  • Represent clients’ interests in national courts and arbitration tribunals, as well as in international commercial arbitration and international judicial institutions.

International students who came to study abroad in Ukraine, after completing a full course, may take up positions:

After finishing lungee training in Ukraine, an international law specialist can work in:

  • embassies;

  • consulting and auditing foreign firms;

  • domestic and foreign firms and representative offices of commercial structures working in the field of foreign policy;
